The onion roti is flavorful yet moderately-spiced so it will be appealing to the whole family. Spiced with cumin seeds, ginger, coriander and green chillies, this whole wheat based roti is rather versatile-it can be had with an elaborate vegetable preparation or just a cup of curds and pickle.

Makes 6 rotis

Ingredients


1 cup whole wheat flour (gehun ka atta)
1 cup finely chopped onions
2 tbsp finely chopped coriander (dhania)
1 1/2 tsp finely chopped green chillies
1 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
1/2 tsp grated ginger (adrak)
2 tbsp melted ghee
salt to taste
whole wheat flour (gehun ka atta) for rolling
oil for cooking


Method

  1. Combine all the ingredients in a deep bowl, mix well and knead to make a soft smooth using enough water.
  2. Divide the dough into 6 equal portions and roll out each portion of the dough into a 125 mm. (5”) diameter circle with the help of a little whole wheat flour.
  3. Heat a non-stick tava (griddle) and cook each roti, using a little oil, till golden brown spots appear on both the sides.
  4. Serve immediately.
